7 Steps Toward Getting Your Hawaii Salesperson License
Getting licensed for your new career might seem a bit daunting, but we’re here to guide you through the process. Read on to learn the seven steps you’ll need to take before starting your career in Hawaii real estate.
Complete 60 Hours of Approved Hawaii Pre-Licensing Education.
As an approved Hawaii real estate school, we have everything you need to get started in Hawaii real estate. Follow these steps per the Hawaii Real Estate Commission and you are on your way!
Complete the Course Final Exam.
Upon completion of all the course material, we’ll provide you with a practice exam that will help prepare you for the course final exam. The final exam is comprised of 130 questions and requires a minimum passing score of 70%. This course does not need to be taken in the presence of a proctor.
Complete an FBI Criminal Background Check.
Before taking the state licensing exam, you first have to complete an FBI criminal background check. Applicants are fingerprinted electronically by Fieldprint Inc., and more information regarding the process can be found here.
Pass the HI Real Estate Sales Associate Examination.
The sales associate exam is comprised of two sections: general and state. The general section is comprised of 80 questions to be completed over 150 minutes. The state section has 50 questions that you will answer over 90 minutes. Unless you’re taking only one of the sections, there is a fee for taking the exam. The examination fee is $68. PSI provides a Candidate Information Bulletin which lists all the specifics about this exam, where to take it, and other important exam details.
Attain Errors & Omissions (E&O) Insurance.
E&O insurance is mandated for all real estate licensees to cover all real estate brokerage activities. Learn more about the details here.
Choose a Sponsoring Broker.
As you complete the licensing process and become a real estate agent, you’ll need to be sponsored by a licensed Hawaii real estate broker. Picking the right broker to work with is a key success factor to building your new career. Here are some questions to consider when looking for a sponsoring broker:
- What is their reputation, both locally and nationally?
- What kind of real estate agents are they looking for?
- Are they technologically advanced and up-to-date with the latest systems?
- How do they support their agents with education and training?
- What kind of commission structure do they offer?
- Do they offer benefits?
- Do they provide their agents with leads and marketing material?
- Is there room to grow with the brokerage?
Apply for Licensure Within Two Years of Passing the Exam.
